Downpour welcomed

MONDAY’S downpour
caused a few
problems for
construction teams
but was widely
welcomed by the
farming community.
The heavens opened
for most of the day
with heavy falls
extending along the
entire Zululand
region.
The Richards Bay
Fire Department
measured 66mm while
St Lucia enjoyed
48mm and Empangeni
farmers reported
65mm which they
described as ‘most
welcome’.
At Richards Bay, an
office block under
construction in Lira
Link was flooded
with about 25 000
litres of water
which had to be
pumped out before
work could be
resumed.
Evidence of the
heavy rains could be
seen throughout the
CBD, much of which
is built on vleis,
and water birds made
the most of the
conditions.
