Big in early points lead

Rudolph Scheepers

ZULULAND Shore Angling hosted the first common venue for this summer.
Weather conditions were almost perfect with a slight north-easterly wind and temperatures in the 30s.
Although a bit early, conditions were perfect for diamond rays which can be caught in abundance on the Zululand coast during summer months.
The venue selected to be fished was the Port Durnford area.
Small milky sharks were on the bite the whole day and this gave all anglers a chance to get some points on the board.
This was also a great opportunity for some junior and female anglers to enjoy themselves.
In total, 30 diamond rays were caught of which not one was gaffed and they all were returned back to the water after being measured.
Some great edible fish were also caught.
Alex Minichiello caught and released a beautiful 32.6kg kob in his last competition for Zululand before he leaves for America.
A great farewell gift for a great angler who will be dearly missed by Zululand Angling.
One of our women anglers, L Steenkamp, also managed to land a 27.5kg kob.
Biggest Edible for the Day was caught by David Pereira of Richards Bay Angling Club - a 35.4kg kob.
Winning team for the day was Richards Bay A on 224.2 points.
Top Angler was Pereira on 106.7 points.
Top Master was Roy Woodley of Richards Bay AC on 81.7 points.
Top Junior was M Alexandre of Tugela A C on 89.9 points.
Top Female Angler was L Steenkamp of Tugela A C on 67.5 points.
