area*
FUTURE
investments in local
economic development
and social
upliftment topped
the agenda during
the historic visit
of the US Consul
General to the
Zululand District
Municipality.
The US Consul
General, Eugene
Young met Zululand
District
Municipality Mayor,
Cllr Zanele Magwaza
and members of her
executive council at
the municipality’s
chambers.
According to Young
the purpose of this
visit was to
establish diplomatic
ties with the
District
Municipality that
might lead to
possible future
investment by the
United States.
The US entourage
visited various
projects implemented
by this District
Municipality aimed
at alleviating
poverty under the
district. Among
projects visited are
Sivananda Princess
Mandisi HIV/AIDS
Centre, Indonsa Art
Centre, Ulundi
Swimming Pool and
The Skills Centre.
Cllr Zanele Magwaza
said she is hopeful
that this visit will
bear fruit in the
form of funding
investments by the
USA.
‘Zululand District
is one of the rural
nodes in this
country thus all
kinds of investments
are welcomed.
‘The municipality is
81 per cent rural
and relies on
government funding
which is not always
sufficient to help
fight poverty,’ said
Magwaza.
There are other US
funded projects in
Zululand such as
Vryheid Hospice,
Ulundi/Nongoma
Salvation Army,
Maphophoma Project
and many more.
