He's the KZN champ

Estiaan Steenkamp
has claimed the KZN
65cc championship*
Estiaan Steenkamp,
an 11 year-old moto-X
rider from Mtubatuba,
has been rewarded
for his hard work in
this year’s KZN
Championships by
winning the 65cc
title.
Estiaan is in his
second year of KZN
racing after moving
on from Peewee
Heaven which formed
the foundation for
his racing.
Last year - his
first season - he
finished as
runner-up in his
class.
2006 has seen
Estiaan racing with
the Ian Marsh Racing
Team and having an
extremely successful
season.
His achievements
were:
• five first places
(four KZN regional
wins and one
inter-provincial win
at Hluhluwe)
• one second place
• one third place
• one fifth place
(inter-provincial in
Gauteng).
He is also the
overall
inter-provincial
champion for the
65cc class.
To emphasise his
achievement, Estiaan
also participated in
the KZN 85cc junior
class on his 65cc
bike and ended
eighth for the year
out of 30 bikes.
The young racer is
dedicated to his
sport, puts in a lot
of hard work and
completes about 1
000 km a month on
practice tracks in
and around Mtubatuba
with personal
trainer Gerhardt
Goosen.
He is moving up to
the 85cc junior
class next year and
will participate in
both the KZN
Regional
Championship and the
new MSA National
Challenge with two
races in Gauteng,
two in KZN, a race
in the Eastern Cape
and a ‘Baby Roof of
Africa’ in Lesotho.
There is a new star
on the horizon and
he will surely be a
rider to be reckoned
with next year.
