Barb and Marius top the field

Barbs Cochrane and Marius Moolman claimed A division

Kerri Jubber

THIS year’s NCR Mixed Foursomes took place at Empangeni Country Club.
The format was 36 holes and amnesia must have struck some of the players as quite a few poor souls selected their spouses as partners this year.
Tempers were frayed early on and, needless to say, the scorching weather did not improve moods.
The only solution was to douse the woes with copious amounts of ‘refreshments’ before the round was completed.
After all the rain that Zululand has experienced, the golf course was in superb condition and thanks must go to André Rautenbach and his team in the Pro Shop, all the staff at the Club, the NCR committee, who lent a helping hand, and to all the players who supported the event.

Results
Overall winners on the day were Barbara Cochrane and Marius Moolman of Empangeni who were comfortably crowned as A Division champions.
Runners-up were Jackie Patinois and Neil Enslin also of Empangeni.
Playing partners Sandy Bronkhorst and André Rautenbach claimed B Division again and also secured the best overall nett on the day.
Runners-up were the formidable team of Beryl Dafel and Mark Kommer of Empangeni.
Contrary to popular belief, there are a selective few players who can endure their spouse’s company on the golf course.
This was proven when husband and wife team Dina and Danie Bosman of Richards Bay Country Club had no problem taking honours in C Division. Runners-up were mom and son team Margie and Clive Bagalke of uMfolozi Country Club.

Upcoming
The golfing community would like to take this opportunity to wish all the NCR women who are taking part in the KZN Inter-club at Umkomaas from 9-12 November all the best.
