Amakhosi not content with finances

The Chairperson of the House of Traditional Leadership in the province and in the Zululand District Municipality - Dr Mangosuthu Buthelezi, after delivering his address which dwelled on the lack of funding for the Amakhosi structure

Starnford Chirwa

The House of Traditional Leadership in the Zululand District has expressed its discontent over the Provincial Government’s handling of their finances.
This surfaced at Ulundi over the weekend during an event hosted by the Zululand District Municipality to introduce the Amakhosi structure to the people living in that district.
Dr Mangosuthu Buthelezi - Chairperson of the Provincial House of Traditional Leadership who also chairs the same house under the Zululand District told the gathering about an incident where he had to pay a certain amount of his flight fee, while attending his duties as chairperson of Amakhosi.
‘To me our role as Amakhosi is to work towards developing our communities and to perform our responsibilities, is unclear as we presently do not have a budget, we have no offices and do not even have a single computer and no staff to aid us,’ said Buthelezi.
Buthelezi applauded the good relationship between the municipalities and the Amakhosi, which he said are fundamental in the servicing of people’s needs.
Zululand District mayor Zanele Magwaza pledged her continued support and co-operation with the Amakhosi, which she claimed is vital to service delivery.
Magwaza recently donated a tractor to each Inkosi under the Zululand District.
