Not only is the solitude of this remote mountainous region food for the soul, but nature provides its own array of entertainment. Numerous bird species abound in the Indigenous Valley Forest as well as the mountain slopes and kloofs. From tiny sunbirds to many Raptor Species, up to 6 large Eagle species visit and soar overhead. As many as 130 bird species have been noted. The many trees, 105 species identified, provide ample food for them and sustain the many natural animals found in the area. From the tiny Blue Duiker to the Kudu, Caracal and Mountain Leopard have their home here as well. Enjoy a variety of walks and hikes. Explore hiking trails or feel free to wonder on your own path. The many Kloofs provide exciting Kloofing, mountain streams are ideal Summer Swimming places. 4×4 trails and mountain biking, some of it extreme, other trails are leisurely excursions. River rafting during the warmer months is a unique experience not found elsewhere locally. Birding, Flora trails and walks to visit San Art Sites are highly recommended. These are a few of the many outdoor activities to be enjoyed. Our recently acquired Celestron Astronomy Telescope allows you to marvel at the stunning night skies, and the Outdoor Boma is a must for entertaining during the summer months. The Lodge is very much a family event. |
