Richards Bay High School presents – Michael Struwig

The quickest way to find out about some one is to look up his/her facebook profile. Its obvious he is a fun loving individual with his life ahead of him. Mr Awesome the grade  eights had to seed in calling him. Well it might be a bit egoistic to get the 200 odd  youngsters to chant “Michael is ‘n awesome ou … en hy wil eendag met Lisa trou ..”

His  favourite quote   ”May peace be our wisdom and fun be our lives” was written by himself    (maybe even to himself).  Further  examination  of his profile status is his  eagerness to become a writer. His notes on Facebook is a compilation of life events in the form of poems and short stories.

Well in my experience Michael does not need to become a writer .. because Michael is a writer that needs to be discovered. He is that awesome bloke that he exclaims to be and attending the Richards Bay 2012 Grade eight concert has proved it.

Why does Michael’s talent needs to be recognised -

In a mind manipulative mass media chasing gore to sell a paper talent like this are crushed in the world of lust for Blood and guts which is a shame because our youth has much more to offer than a gory headline.

Richards Bay High School chose (whether it was voluntary forced or not) to enter the phase of education called dual medium. This was a very bold move for the mainly conservative white Afrikaans community could have easily fall fowl to all the predictions of doom prophecy.  Down ward spiral of discipline in schools is un avoidable due to mass media manipulation and the hipposis they present that the country is unruly and the education system is failing our children.

Every human being wants to live towards a dream and every human being needs recognition. Well let us give the Seniors and their Juniors of Richards Bay High 2012 the recognition they deserve. (When writing this I had no chance to elevate each individual to the recognition they deserve … but hopefully I will be able to do more stories in the years to come about this school and its product.

Grade 8 inauguration school play – A Missing-link Production

To take 200 odd shy scared and sometimes cocky youngsters and cast them into a play in two weeks needs some talent. The ability to work with your peers to a level where they accept you and tolerate your command is a talent worth recognition. In this piece the Title says it all. Richards Bay produces world class leaders. Second year racial integration seems to go seamlessly. The results is in the school play. The interaction amongst students on stage and the clashing of diverse characters back stage all reveals it self in the final product. The result of the “poeding” is in the eating they say … A two week practised play can only be measured in laughter from the audience for its success.

What stands out in this small but very significant production is the casting of the characters. Each one of them took their part and fit to it like a latex glove to a surgeons hands. The Racial integration was and not even worth mentioning. The role players executed the roles  like they have rehearsed it over and over for weeks on end. Well to the grade 8′s it might have felt like that for each and every senior was taking part in shaping them into proud “Baaitjies”. From the pet sliced bread to the respect they had to pay in tree hugging/tickling/senior greeting ritual and wall sucking ritual was incorporated in the success of this production.

Richards Bay High School produces leaders. The School (Grade 7 to 12) took under their wing a lot of newbies and cultured them into a long standing proud tradition that measure up to the best in our young democracy and the rest off the World.

The Missing-link Production (Michael Struwig) reflected this and each and every parent and child can be proud to be part of this Christian Community driven Secondary Education Establishment.
