On Sunday and Tuesday Awesome Charters was out at the Agulhas banks looking for yellowtail. Reports of these fine fighting fish being landed was coming in from various other boats and we were determined to get our share of yellowtail.
We had an early morning launch on Sunday and was at the 12 mile bank at 5am as the sun started to rise over the clear blue waters. We quickly made an anchor, got the baited lines in the water while a few of us started with some vertical jigging. It took about 5 minutes before the first “Fish On!” was heard and from there we caught yellowtail in regular sucession.

Today was a super day at sea with no wind and no swells, and both the Awesome boats were on the 12 mile bank as the sun came up over the horizon, looking for yellowtail.
The fishfinders did their work and the schools of yellowtail were quickly picked up. Hectic fights taxing everyone on board followed as most of the fish were caught on vertical jigs and the rest on bait.

The Jack Daniels told me that the best course of action would be to piss the whole table off, so I blurted out, “They’re all the same, and I could whip anybody’s butt with four black Wide Ranges.”
The ensuing silence seemed to last for an hour, but I’m sure it was only seconds before Nachtigal waded in and saved my sorry butt with the quip, “He’s been hanging around Peter Wright too much, eh, fellas?” The resulting laughter told me I was forgiven for my East Coast ignorance, and the night proceeded without a pummeling.
